The Clenet II Cabriolet formed part of the short but remarkable history of Clenet Coachworks, an American manufacturer that produced hand-built luxury automobiles with distinctive classic styling during the 1970s and early 1980s. The company positioned itself outside mainstream automobile production and focused on exclusive convertibles and roadsters with styling inspired by pre-war luxury cars, while using modern American mechanical components as their foundation. The Clenet II Cabriolet belongs to a very limited production series, making it a model with a rare historical presence.

The car is based on the chassis of the Lincoln Town Car. This platform provided a spacious and comfortable foundation on which the Clenet II Cabriolet was built as an automobile with a strong emphasis on comfort and ease of use.
