Upon its introduction in 1999, the Honda S2000 was met with immediate acclaim from the automotive press. Its engine was nothing short of sensational, featuring a redline at an astonishing 9,000 rpm before requiring an upshift. At the time, this was virtually unheard of in a road car, and comparisons with Formula 1 technology were quickly drawn. Gear changes are executed with remarkable precision and short, mechanical throws; Top Gear even described the S2000 as perhaps the best-shifting car ever made. In the United States, the automotive press hailed the Honda as the perfect roadster. Over the years, the Honda also proved to be exceptionally reliable. As a result, maintenance costs have remained remarkably low. Furthermore, the roadster’s styling has stood the test of time, a fact even acknowledged by the British Top Gear team. It soon became clear that the S2000 was destined to become a future classic.

The fact that only approximately 350 new Honda S2000s were sold in the Netherlands between 2000 and 2010 does not mean the car lacked popularity there. The issue was simply its high new-car price in the Dutch market. In the years that followed, many examples were imported into the Netherlands, and the total number of registered S2000s has since more than doubled. Today, however, it is important to separate the exceptional examples from the ordinary ones. Cars originally supplied to Japan or the United States are generally less desirable among collectors. A damage-free history is essential, while a low mileage is a significant advantage. Many S2000s were delivered in Silver Metallic or Grey Metallic; consequently, more distinctive colours are particularly appreciated by enthusiasts. Although the Honda S2000 is largely free from technical weaknesses, corrosion underneath the car is a known issue. Therefore, a rust-free example should be one of the primary criteria when searching for an S2000.

The Honda S2000 we are offering on behalf of one of our clients ticks every box. Originally delivered new in Germany as a European-market car, it has been registered in the Netherlands since 2012. The S2000 still retains its original first paint throughout. What truly makes this example exceptional is its extraordinarily low mileage of just 11,209 kilometres. Despite this, the Honda has been used regularly and has never spent long periods in storage. Naturally, both the mileage and the regular use are thoroughly documented and fully verifiable.
The stamped service booklet demonstrates a carefully maintained history with a gradually increasing mileage:
• March 2000 - Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI)
• December 2002 - 2,274 km (documented)
• June 2005 - 4,307 km (documented)
• April 2012 - 6,697 km (documented)
• July 2012 - 7,135 km (documented)
• April 2014 - 8,120 km (documented)
• June 2016 - 9,368 km (documented)
• March 2022 - 10,416 km (verified)
• July 2024 - 10,554 km (documented)

It goes without saying that all original books and manuals have been preserved with the car. The documentation file also includes invoices, Dutch RDW registration documents, valuation reports, as well as enthusiast-related material such as photographs and period road tests.

The delicate interior remains in exceptionally beautiful condition. The underside is virtually as-new, completely rust-free, and perfectly reflects the car’s mileage—truly unique. In addition, this S2000 is finished in the highly desirable Monte Carlo Blue Pearl paintwork. As the icing on the cake, the car is equipped with the optional and rare factory hardtop. While hardtops can sometimes compromise the proportions of other two-seaters, the Honda S2000 hardtop transforms the car into an elegant and beautifully proportioned coupé.

Values of well-preserved Honda S2000s have risen considerably in recent years. Particularly outstanding examples have experienced substantial appreciation. We believe that for truly exceptional cars where every aspect is correct—as is the case with this S2000—the end of that value development is still far from being reached.
