The Citroën 2CV was introduced in 1948 as a simple and affordable passenger car for a wide audience. Citroën developed the 2CV with the idea of providing mobility for rural France, placing emphasis on ease of use, low running costs and a construction that remained as lightweight as possible. The 2CV was built during a period in which the automobile was increasingly regarded in France and beyond as a practical means of transport rather than a luxury product. It was therefore designed for everyday use under a wide variety of road and weather conditions. Thanks to its simple engineering, air-cooled two-cylinder boxer engine and highly minimalist design, the 2CV became one of the most recognisable French cars of its era. Production of the 2CV range ultimately continued for decades, making the model a familiar sight on European roads for many years.

The AZ designation appeared during the second half of the 1950s and occupies an interesting position in the history of the Citroën 2CV. This version combined the original concept of the 2CV with several refinements that made the model more appealing to a broader range of users. As such, the AZ not only represents the early years of the 2CV but also the period in which Citroën further developed the original concept without compromising the model's core philosophy. This 1958 example therefore belongs to a period in which the 2CV was already well established, while still remaining very close to its original technical and functional principles. In our opinion, this is the most appealing version: it offers slightly more power along with a number of practical improvements over the earliest 2CV models. Fortunately, its characteristic design remained virtually unchanged, unlike the later versions that succeeded the AZ.

This Citroën 2CV AZ has been restored in the past and continues to present very well. The paintwork is in good condition, while the interior and the canvas roof are both in excellent shape. This "Ribble Duck", as the AZ is affectionately known because of the distinctive corrugated bonnet, is in running condition. The engine runs well, and the Citroën shifts, drives and brakes. Before being returned to regular road use, this Ribble Duck should receive maintenance and a technical inspection, as it has not been used by the current owner for some time. This is also the reason why it is now looking for a new owner. The 2CV is registered in the Netherlands and comes with Dutch registration documents.
