The first-generation Land Rover Range Rover was introduced in 1970 and was initially available exclusively as a three-door model. The five-door version was not introduced until 1981 and was offered alongside the original three-door variant. In 1994, the second-generation Range Rover was launched, after which the model was available only as a five-door.
With an estimated production of approximately 170,000 three-door examples, all of them first-generation Range Rovers, the three-door has become an increasingly rare vehicle. Finding a well-preserved example today is no easy task.
During the first fifteen years of production, the Range Rover was available exclusively with the 3.5-litre Rover V8 engine fitted with twin SU carburettors. Only later were additional petrol engines and diesel variants introduced. However, the true collector and Range Rover enthusiast generally seeks the most desirable combination: an early three-door Classic fitted with the original 3.5-litre carburetted V8 and the robust drivetrain that established the Range Rover's legendary reputation.
This 1981 Range Rover is exactly such a sought-after three-door model, equipped with the 3.5-litre V8 engine. The manual transmission car is finished in the iconic classic white paintwork and features an elegant beige cloth interior. With its permanent four-wheel drive, the Range Rover is capable of tackling virtually any type of terrain. Passengers enjoy the commanding seating position that has always been one of the model's defining characteristics. The tailgate opens in two sections—a separate upper glass section and a lower tailgate—and for those who enjoy open-air motoring, both the glass sunroof and all side windows can be opened.
This Range Rover has been registered in the Netherlands since 2006. In the past, the car was professionally repainted to a very high standard. During this process, it also received an extensive anti-corrosion treatment, a new radiator, a restored sunroof, replacement upholstery and carpets where required, restored door panels and dashboard trim, as well as numerous other improvements. In addition, the car benefits from enhanced sound insulation, a modern Bluetooth audio system with Focal speakers, and various new sensors, including those for oil pressure, oil temperature, fuel level and coolant temperature. A complete record of the restoration work accompanies the vehicle. This stylish Range Rover is not only a difficult-to-find classic but also a car in very good and highly usable condition.
