Rare Porsche 968 Cabriolet – Beautiful colour scheme – Well-presented condition – Competitively priced

The Porsche 968 Cabriolet was introduced in the early 1990s as the open-top version of the 968, a model that represented the final and further developed evolution of Porsche’s transaxle family. This architecture, with the engine positioned at the front and the gearbox mounted at the rear, had previously been used in the 924, 944 and 968 and was designed to achieve an optimal weight distribution. The Porsche 968 Cabriolet therefore continued a technical lineage that differed from the rear-engined models for which Porsche became best known worldwide.

The 968 itself was introduced as the successor to the 944 and took an important position within the Porsche range from 1992 onwards. The 968 was positioned as a refined and practical sports car. Within the model range, the Porsche 968 Cabriolet is recognised for combining sporting engineering with the usability of open-top driving. Porsche applied a further developed four-cylinder inline engine, with the 968 featuring a 3.0-litre four-cylinder engine—one of the largest production four-cylinder engines of its era. Further technical developments included variable valve timing, which contributed to the modernisation of the drivetrain.

The Porsche 968 Cabriolet was produced during a period in which open sports cars held an established place within Porsche’s range alongside the traditional coupés. In this context, the 968 Cabriolet represented the open version of a model produced in significantly smaller numbers than the more common 911 variants. Production of the Porsche 968 ran from 1991 until 1995, with the Cabriolet accounting for part of the total production figures. In absolute terms, the 968 remained a relatively rare model, partly due to changing market conditions during this period and Porsche increasingly focusing on other model lines. The Porsche 968 Cabriolet therefore represents the final chapter of Porsche’s transaxle generation and holds a unique technical position within the brand’s history.

The first registration date of 1992 places this example among the early production years of the 968 series. The Cabriolet was delivered as a genuine factory-built open version rather than a later conversion and reflects Porsche’s approach during this period of offering several model lines in both coupé and convertible form.

The car is in driving condition; however, maintenance and technical inspection will be required. In addition, the airbag warning light remains illuminated. It is recommended that the cause be investigated further. The asking price has already been adjusted accordingly.
