An acceleration of 7.7 seconds to 100 km/h is quite fast. By then this Donkervoort drives 200 kilometers per hour! The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes just a fraction of that: in 2.7 seconds to be precise. That is a beastly fast acceleration. Almost unreal. The grip that a car must have to make this kind of acceleration possible is phenomenal. Reasoning further, it is also understandable that the cornering speed that should be achievable is also almost extraterrestrial. And that is correct. The Donkervoort GTO is the first car that can go through a corner so fast that the driver experiences more than twice the force of gravity in lateral forces. “The first 2G Super Sports Car”, is what Donkervoort calls it.
It’s obvious that such a unique performance requires high-quality technology. The lightweight rims are fitted with semi-slicks (Nankang AR-1 tyres) which transfer these forces to the asphalt. The best shock absorbers on the market have been taken in hand and improved by Donkervoort itself. By moving the exhaust pipe to the side of the car, a higher final drive ratio can be achieved. This enables a higher top speed and also a calmer driving behaviour, without having to compromise on acceleration. Of course, all this violence must be kept under control: at the front, brake discs of 310 x 24 mm and brake calipers with 6 pistons are mounted. At the rear, discs too, but then 285 in diameter, and brake calipers with 4 pistons.
The special and modern technology is also reflected in the bodywork. No less than 95% of the bodywork is made of carbon fibre. This is not only extremely light and strong, but also looks spectacular. Donkervoort patented their self-developed EX-CORE® carbon fibre technology for this purpose. Despite the enormous performance and the associated strength constructions, the weight has been kept to a mere 680 kg. There is also good news for the environment: with the five-cylinder turbo engine emitting only 191 grams/km of CO2, the Donkervoort belongs to the very clean cars.
Donkervoort succeeded in creating a supercar with an insane performance and a corresponding appearance. The car creates awe. With this Donkervoort D8 GTO JD70, the company paid tribute to its founder, Joop Donkervoort (“JD”). Only 70 copies of this version were built, all individually composed, to celebrate Joop Donkervoort’s 70th birthday. The first examples were delivered in June 2020 and the car at Classic Park is from April 2022. The car was originally delivered in the Netherlands and has only had one private owner. Only 6,538 kilometers have been driven with the car and it is therefore in new condition.
Therefore this Donkervoort fits into any collection, but it is even better if the new owner really knows how to use the car as it was intended: driving, sporty driving... Are you ready?
