When the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow succeeded the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, the marque introduced a number of revolutionary changes. With the “standard saloon,” Rolls-Royce abandoned the separate chassis and developed the Silver Shadow with a unitary body construction. The factory also introduced disc brakes on all four wheels and a sophisticated hydraulic self-levelling suspension system. Rolls-Royce continued to innovate, and in 1970 enlarged its legendary V8 engine from 6,230 cc to 6,750 cc.

In 1977, several major updates were combined in the introduction of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II. Key improvements included rack-and-pinion steering and a fully automatic air conditioning system. The Silver Shadow II can be recognised by its black rubber bumpers, which had already been fitted to American-market cars a few years earlier, and, from 1978 onwards, by its headlamp wipers.

The 1978 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II offered by Classic Park benefits from virtually all the improvements introduced during the model’s 15-year production run. What makes this particular car especially unique is its rare Parkertex Savoy Velvet upholstery. This exclusive fabric was mainly ordered by customers from the Arab world during the second half of the 1970s, who desired the luxurious Rolls-Royce interior but preferred fabric over leather because of the warm climate.

The Parkertex interior is in excellent condition. The same can be said for the woodwork and the Everflex roof covering. The paintwork, finished in the elegant Willow Gold colour, is also in very good condition.

This Silver Shadow II was originally delivered in England in 1978 and was imported into the Netherlands in 1996. From 1978 until 2008, many – and possibly all – maintenance invoices have been preserved. In the years that followed, the car continued to receive its periodic roadworthiness inspections, but it has seen very little use. The car is presented in an exceptionally attractive cosmetic condition. A technical inspection and service are, however, recommended.
