No classic car enthusiast can resist the charm of the Triumph TR6. Its clean design, combined with large wheels, gives the car a distinctive profile that is bold, appealing, full of character, and charming. Technically, the TR6 is versatile, featuring a sporty and powerful straight-six engine alongside a smooth driving character that makes it equally suited for relaxed cruising or spirited classic drives.
The Triumph TR 6 was designed by the coachbuilder Karmann from Osnabrück, Germany. Although the renowned designer Giovanni Michelotti had created earlier Triumph models like the TR 4 and TR 5, he was not directly involved in the TR 6 design. With the need for a quick successor to the TR 5, Karmann adapted the existing design rather than creating a completely new model. The design is based on previous TR models (particularly the TR 5/TR 250) but features a refreshed, more angular body. Triumph itself developed the chassis and mechanical components.
The Triumph TR 6 at Classic Park is originally an American model, which is no surprise as the majority of these cars were delivered to the US market.
In the 1970s, the US imposed strict environmental regulations on car engines. This resulted in cleaner engines but with slightly reduced performance. Nevertheless, the TR 6 remained an attractive car with sporty ambitions. The 2498 cc six-cylinder engine in the US versions used carburetors instead of fuel injection and still produced a respectable 104 hp. This makes the car more than capable of handling modern traffic with ease.
This Triumph TR 6 has been restored in the past and is in good condition.
