The Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen from the W460 series was initially developed as a military vehicle. The W460 came onto the market in 1979 and heralded a long period of also luxurious off-road vehicles in which the model became known as the Mercedes-Benz G-Class (W463). The Spartan origins are still recognizable in this W460, but it is also clearly visible that with the Geländewagen Mercedes-Benz has taken the path of very luxurious SUVs. The Geländewagen has permanent four-wheel drive with selectable low gearing and with two selectable differential locks. This allows the car to handle the toughest terrain conditions without any problems.
The Mercedes-Benz 280 GE Lang (German for ‘Long’) is the version with six doors and two transversely placed benches in the back. Although the ‘Lang’ version is officially registered as a 5-person vehicle, the car has two rear doors and offers space for no less than 9 people off the public roads. Inherent to this is that when the seats are folded away, there is very much luggage space.
The 280 GE has a 2746 cc six-cylinder in-line engine that is coupled to an automatic gearbox. The engine with its 150 hp guarantees effortless propulsion in every conceivable terrain.
The 280 GE Lang was delivered new in 1981 in southern Germany and was imported to the Netherlands in 2011. The car is in good original condition.
