When in 1965 Rolls-Royce launched the new Silver Shadow, the factory made a bigger technical step than they had ever done before. For the first time, Rolls-Royce made a car with a monocoque body, heralding the end of the era of the independent chassis. Other examples of major innovations were the hydraulic system with height control, and disc brakes on all four wheels. After the introduction, the factory continued to constantly implement further technical innovations. For example, in 1968 right-hand drive cars received the new three-speed GM400 automatic gearbox that left-hand drive cars had got from the beginning. In addition, the dashboard was completely redesigned in 1968 to comply with American safety regulations. In 1970 the V8 engine was enlarged from 6230 to 6750 cc. The Silver Shadow at Classic Park is finished in the stately Midnight blue color and has a tasteful light blue interior. In the past the car has been repainted but the interior is in good, original condition and has the wonderful smell of the Connolly leather. The wood veneer is also in very good, original condition. It is rare that the original tool set is still present with the car. The Silver Shadow was delivered new in England and has been in the Netherlands since 1996.
