Specific

January 2016 we spotted this very interesting Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I Mulliner Sports Saloon with chassis number SWA94. The car was by then for many years in a Spanish collection. This car was delivered Mai 1956 to his first owner. Because only four cars of this model, Design 7412, are made and world wide there was no other car for sale we liked the car as an unique car for our museum. The car did age well, the original interior is still there, the woodwork is fine and the engine runs smooth. The body was strong but the car was in need of new paint. That is why we ordered a professional paint job on the car. Professional means that everything as lamps, bumpers, handles etc. were taken off. This well done and good documented paint job was finished January 2017.

This will be a nice touring car for the future. The six cylinder engine as used by Rolls-Royce in this type of cars is very reliable and easy to maintain. The car feels at home on secondary roads and will go with modern traffic on the highway. In meetings with other Rolls-Royce enthusiasts you will always have an unique car as the three other cars are spread over the world in private collections. The suicide doors on the back make this car a real limousine and gives easy access to the rear compartment. Look to the front of the car, you think you see a Silver Cloud, look at the side and the back of this car, you think you see a Flying Spur. But this car is more rare compared to a Cloud or a Continental due to the suicide doors and the higher roof and it is not so massive as a Phantom. It is the ultimate car for touring with family or friends!

We love the original interior of the car. It is very well aged, has a lot of patina and can be colored. We have not colored it so that the buyer can decide whether or not to color it. The original carpet in the luggage compartment is in a lesser condition, of course we can replace this carpet. A major maintenance work has already been completed in our workshop and a friend of ours has been driven the car to the RREC Annual Meeting 2017 in England.
This car is a dream to drive in and we expect a good investment also.

General

Design 7401/ 7412 was the H J Mulliner alternative to the standard steel saloon Silver Cloud or Bentley S Type, destined for customers who still preferred individuality and the pleasure of a tailored, handcrafted car in the best English coachbuilding tradition. With a straight waistline and slightly prominent elegant rear wings, H J Mulliner inaugurated a new styling theme for the Silver Cloud/ S Type chassis, which was also used on the drophead coup├ęs and on the fastbacks for the Continental chassis.

From this model coachbuilder Mulliner handcrafted only four cars, all right hand driven. The four door body is of all-metal light alloy framework with a steel floor and the paneling in aluminum. The front doors are hinged on the forward edge and the rear doors on the hind pillars for easier access to the interior, all on concealed hinges. The main door windows all drop and there are front swivel windows and hinged quarter windows for extra ventilation. Particular attention has been given to dust sealing of the whole car and special sections of rubber have been employed to the windscreen and door opening etc.

Design 7412/ 7401 has been very important because the Flying Spur design for the Continental chassis is an evolution of it. Due to the lower radiator grille and column steering position, the shape of the Flying Spur is maybe more dynamic, but Design 7412/ 7401 is more refined inside. This is certainly the case for the passengers seated on the rear seat. Unlike the backseat of a Flying Spur is the rear seat easily accessible in Design 7412 and there is, in contrast to the Flying Spur, adequate headroom. Design 7412/ 7401 is equipped with folding tables in the back of the front seat, a clothes brush and mirror nested in a recess at the side of the rear seat and cigar lighters on each side of the rear seat. Front doors are provided with spring flap doors for additional accommodation.
In total, just four Silver Cloud Design 7412; and twenty seven S Type Design 7401 have been built.
