An Amilcar is often called "the poor mans Bugatti". There are also some important similarities such as the sporty appearance and the low weight of the cars. The Amilcar, just like the Bugatti, gives you a lot of driving pleasure due to the extremely low weight! Over the past decades Amilcar's classics have undergone considerable price developments. As with many other brands such as Bentley and Bugatti, an increase in value is often at the expense of authenticity. Original bodies are replaced by replicas of sporty versions. This Amilcar has escaped this because it was already a sporty Amilcar: this is a rare and above all very original Amilcar CGS (Chassis Grand Sport) with the popular aluminum boattail body from Ch. Duval.
The history of this car goes back to 1945. The car was probably delivered new in Belgium in 1925, unfortunately the exact details were lost during the Second World War. At the end of the Second World War there was a large liberation army in Belgium. The American Captain J.K. Leydon bought this CGS in 1945 in Belgium and put it on transport to the USA. Sometime in the early 70s of the last century he gave the Amilcar as a gift to his son. In the late 70s the son sold the CGS to a following owner. In the 1990s, the Amilcar, now a sought-after classic, was then sold to the United Kingdom. There the car was completely restored in the late 90s and repainted in the color French Blue. One of the owners in England also raced the car. The CGS was sold back to Belgium in 2014 and again provided with a new layer of lacquer. In 2017 the Amilcar came to Holland where a complete overhaul of the engine, gearbox and starter motor have been carried out. The works resulting in a beautifully running Amilcar that is ready for long tours!
The history of this Amilcar CGS with boattail body by Ch. Duval includes two thick folders with documentation, invoices and photos of this unique car.
